Parcel
Export the ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini chat you have open. The file stays on your computer.
Markdown export is free. A library on this device lets you save, search, read, organize with folders and favorites, keep excerpts and prompt templates, rename, copy, download, back up, restore, and delete. Your first 10 library saves are free; after that, an optional one-time purchase unlocks unlimited saving. There is no subscription and no cloud library.
Parcel is an independent extension. It is not affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.
Privacy
Parcel exports the ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini chat you have open, and can keep a copy in a library on this device.
What stays on this device
- Export creates a Markdown file in the browser when you click Export. Chrome saves that file, usually in your Downloads folder.
- Save stores the chat title, the Markdown, the page address, the save time, and partial-save status in the extension's IndexedDB library inside this Chrome profile. Search, reading, rename, download, ZIP, and delete use that local copy.
- The library also stores folders, favorites, saved excerpts and their source references, prompt-template text, modification revisions and import fingerprints. A local catalog supports listing without loading complete conversation bodies. Search and archive workers process this data locally.
- Library and reader tabs store search and return-view state in browser-managed session storage, which may survive session restoration. This is separate from the memory-only extension navigation context and is not removed by its one-day cleanup alarm.
- Opening a result stores a navigation context in Chrome's in-memory extension session storage. It contains the search words (at most 500 characters), the matched word or phrase with at most 48 characters on each side, or an excerpt id when opening a source chat, plus the library view needed to return. It does not contain the saved conversation. Parcel removes it when the last reader tab using it closes. Cleanup is scheduled for one day after it was stored, including when no reader page remains open. Chrome may delay that alarm, including while the device is asleep. Reloading the reader, or using back and forward, keeps it so the passage can be checked again. Chrome holds this extension navigation context in memory for the browser session and clears it when the browser session ends or Parcel is reloaded. Parcel does not upload that context.
- Filled template values stay in memory for the open reader. Copy and Download use those values. They are not written into the saved template or into backups.
- Copy Markdown writes the saved conversation to the device clipboard when you request it. The library does not sync between devices, and Parcel does not add application-level encryption to saved copies or downloaded files.
- Parcel does not upload chat text, titles, or message content. There is no Parcel server and no Parcel account.
- Library entries stay until you delete them or the browser removes the extension's local data. Deleting a library entry does not delete files already downloaded. Clearing a license does not delete the library.
- Existing saved chats can be searched, read, copied, renamed, downloaded, exported as ZIP, and deleted without a current license. The first 10 new library items are free; after that, a license is required to save new copies.
- Free saves and the same one-time license also cover new excerpts, templates and duplicate copies. Parcel counts free saves as a single number in Chrome's local extension storage. Items already in the library, including restored ones, count toward the free saves. Deleting an item does not return a free save. Removing Parcel deletes the count along with the library. Editing and organizing existing items, backups and restore remain available without a current license. Deleting a source chat keeps its excerpt snapshots; deleting a folder keeps its items. Deleting an item removes its local content and catalog record; associated excerpts are independent saved items.
- Back up library downloads an unencrypted ZIP containing conversation text and library metadata. Backups contain no license keys or installation identifiers. Restore imports only after preview and confirmation, merges into the local library and preserves conflicting versions. Legacy Parcel Markdown ZIPs cannot recover metadata that was never exported. Keep backup files private and delete downloaded copies yourself when no longer needed.
- Keep a folder copy writes that same unencrypted ZIP, named parcel-library-copy.zip, into a folder you choose. Parcel updates that file when you ask, and after library changes while the library page still has folder access. When Chrome asks for access again, the library shows Update folder copy and waits for you. The file stays on disk if you remove Parcel. Chrome still deletes the in-extension library on removal. The remembered folder is stored with the extension and is removed with it. After a new install, choose Restore backup and select that file.
What the extension reads
- On chatgpt.com, claude.ai, or gemini.google.com, when you click Export, Copy Markdown or Save, Parcel reads the conversation you have open. The content can include personal information the user has placed in that conversation. Parcel also handles the conversation's title and URL to identify and label the exported or saved copy.
- Parcel uses the login already in the chat tab. The ChatGPT reader temporarily obtains a session access token and sends it back to ChatGPT to request the selected conversation. Claude requests use the existing signed-in session. Parcel does not retain provider login credentials or send them to Polar.
- While Gemini is open, a bundled page script checks whether matching history network requests are loading or have completed. It does not record a network log or read request bodies for analytics. Export or Save may scroll to load earlier messages, then restore the reading position. The history-loading signal is not sent to Parcel or Polar.
License check
- Activating a license sends the license key, the Polar organization id, and a generated installation name to Polar at api.polar.sh. If that license does not use device activations, Polar declines the activation request and Parcel validates the key without an installation id.
- Subsequent license checks send the key, organization id, benefit id, and the installation id when one was stored. Checks occur when opening the popup or creating a new chat copy, excerpt, template or duplicate, and only when a key is stored; concurrent checks share one request. Chat text, chat titles, conversation addresses and template content are not included.
- Parcel stores the key, installation identifiers, verified organization and benefit ids, validation time, and license status in Chrome's local extension storage. It does not store customer names or email addresses returned by Polar.
- A previously verified Parcel license can authorize new saves during a network failure for up to seven days after its last successful check. An explicit rejection disables new saves. Previously saved chats remain accessible.
- A local test unlock exists only while a developer loads Parcel unpacked. Installs from the Chrome Web Store do not offer it.
Purchase and license service
The optional paid library uses Polar for checkout and license services. Parcel's extension does not read payment-card details or transaction history from the checkout. Polar processes information under its own privacy policy, which describes purchase, contact, device/IP and related service data. Requests to Polar travel over HTTPS. Conversation content is not included in license requests.
Clearing a license removes Parcel's local license state; it does not delete purchase records held by Polar or remove downloaded files. Use Polar's published privacy contacts for requests about information it holds.
Use of information
Parcel uses conversation data for the requested export and local-library features, and license information to authorize new saves. The extension does not send conversation content for advertising or analytics, sell that content, or use it for lending or creditworthiness decisions. It does not create a general browser-history database or record clicks and keystrokes for analytics. The Gemini loading observation described above supports conversation extraction.
Permissions
- chatgpt.com, claude.ai, and gemini.google.com — read the open conversation when you click Export, Copy Markdown or Save.
- api.polar.sh — activate and validate the library license.
- storage — remember the license state and the free-save count on this device, and hold temporary reader navigation context in memory for this browser session.
- activeTab — find and communicate with the open chat when using the popup.
- alarms — schedule deletion of temporary reader navigation context one day after it was stored. Chrome may run that cleanup later, including while the device is asleep.
